§ 25-6. Sheriff designated chief correctional officer.

  • (a)

    Pursuant to the provisions of Section 951.061, Florida Statutes, the Hernando County Sheriff is hereby designated as the chief correctional officer.

    (b)

    The county sheriff shall appoint such officers as he deems necessary to assist him in the operation of the county's jail(s).

    (c)

    The county sheriff shall enforce all existing state laws, federal laws, and administrative rules concerning the operation and maintenance of the county's jail(s).

    (d)

    The sheriff shall include salaries for correctional officers in his/her annual proposed budget of expenditures for the maintenance and operation of the county's jail(s) as provided in Section 30.49, Florida Statutes. The salaries for correctional officers shall be paid from the general revenue fund of the county.
